If you’re building or upgrading a sauna, you know the struggle of getting the heat just right. We built these 1500W and 1600W ruby lamps because we wanted something that could handle heavy-duty heat without breaking a sweat. Instead of the usual quartz setup, we put a carbon fiber heating element inside a ruby-tinted quartz tube. Why the high wattage? Simple. It gets you to that “sweet spot” temperature much faster. We chose 1500W and 1600W so the heat actually sinks deep into the tissue using short-wave infrared. And that ruby color? It’s not just to look cool. It filters out the harsh glare so you aren’t staring into a blinding light while you’re trying to relax, all while keeping the thermal energy focused. You get a direct beam of heat that hits you instantly, rather than waiting for the air in the room to warm up first. The carbon fiber difference Most heaters use nickel-chromium wires, but those tend to sag or snap after they’ve been heated and cooled a thousand times. Carbon fiber is different. It handles the expansion and contraction way better. It’s a reliable workhorse, especially for commercial saunas that are running all day. We used ruby quartz glass to keep moisture and oxidation away from the element. Just a heads-up: keep them away from direct water splashes. If cold water hits that hot glass, it can crack from the shock. Getting them installed When you’re wiring these in, just double-check that your controllers can handle a 1600W peak load. These lamps put out a lot of intensity in a small area. If you’re using budget timber or plastics for your housing, go ahead and add some heat shielding. You don’t want any scorched walls. One last thing—the lamps are compact, but they’re powerful. Make sure your ventilation is on point. If you cram too many of these into a tiny cabin without any airflow, you’ll likely trip the thermal cut-off or fry the terminals. Give them some room to breathe, and they’ll last you a long time.
