If you’re using a standard convection oven, you’re basically heating the air and hoping for the best. The problem is that the outside of the pad hardens way too fast. Getting the Heat Where it Actually Matters
This is where infrared (IR) comes in. Instead of waiting for hot air to slowly soak in, IR emitters shoot energy straight into the friction material. Think of it like a microwave versus a toaster oven. The photons dive deep into the compound, heating the core and the surface at the same time. You get a cure that’s consistent all the way through the pad, not just on the skin. We use high-wattage quartz lamps to get the job done. The Trade-offs (Because Nothing is Free)
Now, there’s a catch. IR heating pulls a lot of power. If you’re moving away from convection, you’ll probably need to check your electrical panels—you’re going to need more amperage. Also, IR is fast. Really fast. Which means your timing has to be spot on. If a batch stays under the lamps for a few seconds too long, you’ll scorch the resin and ruin the whole lot. You can’t wing it; you need a rock-solid conveyor speed controller to keep everything locked in.
