Because these materials don’t play by the same rules. Ceramic pads tend to bounce IR energy right back, while semi-metallics soak it up fast. If you aren’t tuning your heaters to match the material, you end up with the worst of both worlds—scorched surfaces and cores that are still raw.
The Science (Without the Boredom)
It all comes down to the wavelength. For those semi-metallic pads, we use short-wave IR. It’s the only way to really push the heat deep into those metallic fibers. Ceramics are a different story. We have to tweak the spectral distribution or add specific coatings to the quartz tubes to shift the wavelength. Basically, we make sure the energy actually sinks in instead of just glancing off the surface.
Picking the Right Gear

If you crank up the heat density to shave a few seconds off your cycle time, make sure your ventilation can handle the extra heat. If it can’t, you’re looking at a warped housing. Not a fun fix.
