It usually happens because the internal stresses in the material didn’t relax evenly while curing. The fix isn’t a bigger oven. It’s about being smarter with how you apply heat. Why “One Size Fits All” Heating Fails
Standard ovens are just too blunt. They blast the whole part with the same temperature, but your part isn’t uniform. You’ve got thick ribs in one spot and paper-thin walls in another. The thin parts cook too fast, and the thick parts stay raw. We handle this by splitting the heating array into independent circuits. Instead of one big switch, you have zones. You can crank up the wattage in the heavy areas and dial it back for the thin ones. It keeps the resin curing at the same pace across the whole piece, no matter the shape.
The Gear That Actually Works
We stick with short-wave quartz lamps for this. Here is the secret: short-wave IR actually digs deep into the resin. Long-wave heat just toasts the surface, but short-wave hits the core. Plus, the heat density is wild. You can hit your curing temps in seconds. It’s fast. Really fast. But a word of warning on the setup. If you’re packing high-wattage lamps into a tight space, things get hot—and I mean dangerously hot. If your fans or vents aren’t sized for the total BTU output, you’re going to melt your housings or fry your wiring. Don’t skimp on the power supply.
Getting Those Dimensions Right
The whole point here is to kill the residual stress. When you use precise heat zones, the molecular structure of the resin settles down without pulling the part out of alignment. It means you can stop messing around with secondary corrective jigs. Replacing these lamps is pretty straightforward, but you’ve got to be obsessive about the specs. Match the voltage and the length exactly. Even a tiny gap in lamp length creates a “cold spot.” And a cold spot means uneven curing, which puts you right back where you started with a warped part.
